Cold Lake military base has a long and proud history going back to the early 1940s. Established in 1942 as an RCAF Station, it is now home to 4 Wing Cold Lake, the largest and busiest Canadian Forces Base in Canada. 4 Wing Cold Lake is the centre for air combat training in Canada and provides a safe and secure environment for the training of Canadian Forces personnel, as well as for the hosting of a number of international military exercises. The base is also involved in a wide range of community activities and is a major economic driver in the regions Range is the only tactical bombing range in Canada.

Cold Lake is now home to the 4 Wing Canadian Forces Base and is the most northerly base of the Canadian Air Force. 4 Wing Cold Lake is one of the busiest military bases in the country with its large air weapons range and training area, which covers more than 2,500 square kilometres. The base is responsible for training pilots and aircrews, as well as providing support to the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD). The Base also features a state-of-the-art recreation and fitness centre, a 9-hole golf course and a variety of other facilities and services available for Military and families.
