Integrated Relocation Program (IRP) Guide - FAQ.
What is IRP ?
The Integrated Relocation Program (IRP) is the official relocation framework for members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and other federal employees when they are posted to a new location. It sets out the benefits, allowances, and procedures that cover major relocation costs such as travel, temporary accommodations, real estate services, and House Hunting Trips (HHTs). The IRP is designed to reduce the financial and logistical stress of moving, ensuring that families can transition smoothly and focus on settling into their new posting.
Can I meet up at Base Orderly Room to have a Relocation Rep hepl me discuss IRP and my families future?
No ! All of a sudden on December 1st 2017, IRP no longer provides any in-person Rep at any Base in Canada. Gone are the days when you could walk into a Base Orderly Room and talk to a Relocation Rep face to face. Instead, they have an App that they want you to download and register with. Then, once you've completed a few steps, finally a Rep that will be assigned to your file (more info provided in this FAQ).
I've been officially Posted ! When do I register and download the official COS IRP App?
As soon as you receive your official posting message, you should register with your relocation service provider to activate your Integrated Relocation Program (IRP) file. This step is what unlocks access to the official COS IRP app, which you’ll need throughout your move. The app helps track expenses, upload required documents, and stay updated on key deadlines. Register early — ideally within a few days of receiving your posting message — so you don’t risk delays with House Hunting Trip (HHT) approvals, booking travel, or getting reimbursed.
I would like even more detailed information on IRP, my HHT , my entitlements and more...
Well, you're in luck. There is a really large Government grade document located here. It's rather in-depth and cumbersome to read but it's a quick synopsis of topics such as:
1. Military HHT & DIT Benefits
2. Interim Lodgings, Meals & Misc Expenses (ILM&M)
3. Sale and Purchase of a Residence
4. Specific moves within Canada etc. . .

I'm a Realtor. I'd like marketing options to help gain more Military clientelle.
If you’re a Realtor looking to connect with military and RCMP families, focus on visibility where they search and trust. Options include listing on RelocatingMilitary.ca for direct exposure, targeted digital ads around CAF bases, offering relocation guides or HHT checklists as lead magnets, advertising in base newspapers and signage, and showing up at local military events. Consistent visibility and relocation-specific expertise are what build credibility with this niche.
I'm on Military IRP with an upcoming HHT, what are the steps to navigate your relocation service provider?
When you receive your posting message under the Military IRP, your first step is to register with your assigned relocation service provider. This unlocks access to their online portal or app, where you’ll track expenses, upload documents, and get approvals for your House Hunting Trip (HHT). Registering early is important so you don’t run into delays with booking travel, securing accommodations, or getting reimbursements. From there, follow the step-by-step guidance in the portal, and lean on relocation-experienced professionals such as realtors, inspectors, and lawyers who understand the timelines and requirements of an HHT.
Is pre-registration the same as the registration?
Once your file has been authorized Department Coordinator the system will match the information from your employer with your pre-registration and send your password and User ID via email. You will then be able to complete the registration process.
How do I register with my relocation service provider for my COS?
Once you receive your official posting message, you’ll be directed to register with your assigned relocation service provider to open your COS (Change of Strength) file. Registration activates your Integrated Relocation Program (IRP) benefits and gives you access to the provider’s portal or app, where you can submit expenses, upload documents, and get approvals for travel and your House Hunting Trip (HHT). It’s best to complete registration right away to avoid delays with reimbursements, bookings, and other relocation entitlements.
What’s next after I’ve registered and have the App?
On successful registration, a Brookfield Advisor will be assigned and contact you within a few business days to discuss your relocation intentions and book your 1st Planning Session. To simplify things and stay ahead of other buyers on your HHT , we recommend getting a Mortgage pre-approval. Consider our IRP familiar Mortgage team here.
I believe I am being posted — can I call the relocation service provider with my questions?
If you think you are being posted but haven’t yet received your official posting message, you won’t be able to register or open a relocation file with the service provider. Questions at this stage are best directed to your orderly room, career manager, or chain of command. Once your posting message is issued, you can then register with the relocation service provider, gain access to their portal or app, and contact them directly for support with IRP-related questions.
